HOW THE GAME IS PLAYED
League Setup: The NASCAR Sprint Cup 36 points races make up the whole season. The season is divided into 4 Segments using the following format:

Segment 1: (Races 1-9) 9 races
Segment 2: (Races 10-18) 9 races
Segment 3: (Races 19-26) 8 races
Fantasy Chase for the Championship and Segment 4: (Races 27-36) 10 races
NEW FOR 2013: If there should be 40 or more participants entered overall, the leagues will be split into multiple seperate leagues. For example, 40 entries will be split into 2 leagues of 20 participants each)

NEW FOR 2013: If there are 40 or more entries, teams will also compete for overall winnings this season as well

Here is the breakdown:

Individual Leagues

$35 of each entry will be applied towards your individual league
Leagues will follow the 4 segments and Fantasy Chase format as usual

Overall Winners

The remaining $15 of each entry will be applied towards the overall league winners
Payouts will be for overall points throughout the 36 race season (no Segments or Chase)

Individual leagues will be the focus, but we also want to reward the overall winners throughout the season as well.
Fantasy Playoff: The Top 12 fantasy teams in the Overall Standings after Race #26 will qualify for the Fantasy Chase For The Championship. Only these 12 teams will be eligible for the Fantasy NASCAR championship.

Remember, whether you make the Chase or not, your overall point total will continue to accrue points towards the overall payout.

The number of teams eligible for the Fantasy Chase is subject to change based on the number of people in your league
The remaining teams that are not eligible for the Fantasy Nascar championship will be placed in their own group to compete for seperate Segment 4 payout.
Total qualifying and finishing points accumulated throughout the whole season. No points are awarded if qualifying gets rained out. Separate awards will be given for each segment as well as overall winners. Points structure is listed at the bottom of this page.
Any time a fantasy team chooses the winning driver during a race week, they will be awarded 5 bonus points to go towards the Fantasy Chase when it starts. Your team must make the Fantasy Chase for the Championship in order to receive these points.
Drivers are divided into 6 groups below labeled 1, 2, 3, 4, 5 and 6. (The example below is just a sample group. The real groups will be provided at the beginning of the season)

Prior to each new segment beginning (Race 10, 19, and 27), driver groups will change. Please keep this in mind while making selections throughout the season.
Choose one driver from each of the 6 groups. This will comprise your race team each week. You may make changes to your roster every week, but are not required to do so. If you fail to make changes, your picks will roll over from the following week with a few exceptions:

Exceptions: You may be required to make changes prior to Race 10, 19, and 27 as these are the weeks that groups will change. If you fail to do so, you may be subject to possible penalties for having an incomplete roster if groups change drastically during those weeks. See "Penalties" section below for more information.
Changes are due each week before qualifying. Qualifying varies from week to week according to qualifying procedures set by NASCAR. While effort will be made to keep you posted on this using the "Upcoming Schedule" section of your league homepage, it is ultimately the team owners responsibility to make sure picks are submitted on time before qualifying each week, if you are making any.

IMPORTANT: If there is a rain delay during qualifying or qualifying is rained out, you are still responsible to submit your selections for the week, if you are making any, before the original scheduled start of qualifying
Driver selections can be made at any time. They can be made as many races ahead of time as you wish, however, keep in mind that driver groups change after each segment throughout the season, so team owners should plan for this.

Changes to your selections for a race may be made at anytime before that race deadline.

NOTE: If you make a set of picks prior to a new segment, and driver groups have not been set, you will have to go back in to your picks page and make sure a selection is made for every group.

A driver that changes groups will have your selections page reset for that group (meaning you won't have a selection in that group anymore) and therefore subject to penalties should a group be left empty after picks deadline has passed. (See the Pick'em Penalties further down the page for more info)
Scoring for each week will be final on the Friday following the race. If you feel a mistake was made to your scoring, please contact the commissioner before this deadline to get it corrected.

SEGMENTS
The season is divided into four segments using the following format:

Segment 1: (Races 1-9) 9 races
Segment 2: (Races 10-18) 9 races
Segment 3: (Races 19-26) 8 races
Fantasy Chase and Segment 4: (Races 27-36) 10 races

After every segment is completed, but before the following race, the driver groups will change. Typically, this is done according to Fantasy Nascar points accumulated by the drivers over the course of the season, but there may be exceptions to this rule in order to attempt to keep a level playing field in all groups.
9 Races: Races 1-9 (Driver groups change before qualifying for Race #10)
9 Races: Races 10-18 (Driver groups change before qualifying for Race #19)
8 Races: Races 19-26 (Driver groups change before qualifying for Race #27)
10 Races: Races 28-36 (End of season)
The Sprint Unlimited (a.k.a the Bud Shootout) and the All-Star Race (or whatever they will be named this year) are non points races in this league

DAYTONA 500 (RACE #1)
Selections for the Daytona 500 will not be due until 1PM Eastern time the day of the race. NO QUALIFYING POINTS WILL BE AWAREDED FOR THIS RACE. ONLY RACE POINTS. This is to give people more time to sign up if they wish to play with us this season.

FANTASY CHASE PLAYOFF
Your fantasy team must be in the Top 12 in the Overall Fantasy Standings after the Week #26 race at Richmond.

This number is subject to change based on the number of people in your league
Nascar currently uses a format that rewards drivers bonus points to use when they begin the Chase for the Championship. This league will use a similar format as well. Here is how it works:

The 12 teams that make the chase will have their points reset to zero. In addition, each race winner they select (during the first 26 races only), will earn 5 playoff bonus points for their team. This total is the amount of points their fantasy team will start the Fantasy Chase with.

Example 1: Team A chooses the winning driver in 10 races, they will start the Fantasy Chase with 50 pts.
Example 2: Team B chooses the winning driver in 8 races, they will start the Fantasy Chase with 40 pts.

The goal is to award the team owners that choose the winning driver each week.

Once the Fantasy Chase starts, points will be awarded the same as every other race. The team with the most points after the final race of the season (Homestead) is your fantasy league champion.
Fantasy teams outside of the top 12 in fantasy points will be placed in their own segment of 10 races. Everyone in this segment starts at zero and the team to accumulate the most points in the final 10 races will be the winner of Segment 4. No bonus points will be used towards this segment. Everyone will start equal.

NOTE: Since these team owners are not eligible for the Fantasy Chase for the championship, this will be scored in its own separate group.
Teams who make the Fantasy Chase will not be eligible to compete in Segment 4. The 4th Segment is reserved for only those Fantasy NASCAR teams that do not make the Fantasy Chase for the Championship.

This is to give those that are not in the top 10 in the standings something to play for at the end of the season.

PICK PENALTIES
No Driver Selections For A Certain Group or Missed Picks Altogether: The penalty will be as follows for groups with no selection made:

After the race is over, you will be assigned the driver with the lowest point total accumulated for that group for that race. If multiple groups have missed picks, the same format will be followed for all groups.

When Driver Groups Change: Team owners are strongly encouraged to go back into their picks page to ensure all groups have a selection. (See"When Can Driver Selections Be Made?" in the "How The Game Is Played" section above.

Important: It is the responsibility of all team owners to make sure that weekly selections get accepted via the picks form on time (if you make any) or you may email them if you choose to do it that way.

The league commissioner will not be held responsible for any changes being late, lost, or misdirected as a result of any computer malfunction, delay, etc. If you are having computer problems, contact the commissioner before the deadline and he will enter your desired changes for you.

DRIVER PENALTIES
If a driver is found to have illegal equipment, etc during or after qualifying and he is sent to the rear of the field, he will be penalized the same in this league. If NASCAR has the driver starting 35th, then qualifying points will be given for 35th position.

The determining factor will be, did that/those driver(s) earn those points? The answer would be no so no points should be given.
If a driver is sent to the rear of the field due to having to use a backup car or to change an engine, he will not be penalized and will still receive his qualifying points for that race as the reason for going to the back of the field was voluntary and not the result of a penalty.
If a driver is docked points by NASCAR for illegal equipment etc. during the race, his finishing points will be determined where his finishing position would have been after the points were docked according to NASCAR points.

(Example: A driver finishes 2nd in the race (42 NASCAR pts)  but after inspection is docked 10 points for something illegal, dropping his point total to 32 NASCAR pts, his resulting finish would be 12th according to NASCAR points depending on the other drivers points. He would go from 46 Fantasy League finishing points to 36 points)
If an altercation should happen after the race, and points are deducted by NASCAR due to driver behavior, crew chief behavior, etc, with no direct correlation to what happened on the track, no points will be deducted in this fantasy league.
